Inle Lake
Stretching over 22 kilometers, Inle Lake is a shallow body of water surrounded by hills on both sides. The area is home to a unique market where hill tribes gather to sell their produce, providing a glimpse into the local way of life.
Visitors can explore small-scale industries, including silversmiths, blacksmiths, lotus cloth weavers, cheerut (local cigarette) makers, and a handmade paper industry, offering a fascinating look at traditional craftsmanship.
The Hpaung Daw U Pagoda at Inle Lake is especially noteworthy, housing five stone Buddhas and carrying a special belief, which your guide will explain in detail.
The lake is also known for its stilt-house villages, floating vegetable gardens, and vibrant markets. A highlight of Inle Lake is the famous “leg-rowers,” who use one leg to row their boats, keeping their hands free to cast their nets.
